Just played the demo, and thoroughly enjoyed it. There isn't really anything to criticize at this point, so nothing but glowing words from me. One thing I do wish was possible, would be the option for the player to name the prince themselves, as well as their alias after their change. As a trans woman, stories like this can prove a great relief from struggles one may have in daily life, and while this story can very much still do that, it would do it even better if the player was able to give a custom name to the MC themselves. Being able to use their own chosen name, could be a big chance for people to sorta engage with their own name, especially if they're in the closet for whatever reason, and can't experience the joy of someone calling them by their true name so to speak in real life.
The story seems good so far as it is, and my recommendation really just comes down to me nitpicking at this point, but I feel like it's an option that would only make people enjoy the story even more than they already would. As a fanfic author though, I can understand the importance of names to the person writing their story, so don't feel pressured into making that change if the current names are important to you. It was purely and innocent suggestion that you have every right to turn down or ignore.
For what is so far it seems like a very cute and wholesome story which I am looking forward to playing after its completion.
Positives:
cute and well done art
psychological side of MC prob accepting themselves as story progresses further
simple story which is fine for visual novel such as this one
Negatives:
as already mentioned by holograph the occasional voice lines that do not even fit the written text feel kinda out of place
instead of those if you want to keep the voice acting just simple gestures/sounds would I think suffice more than enough like a voices of characters laugh, grunt, cry etc.
Either way the game is good and I would like to play it finished someday
I like it so far. Not a ton of length to judge on, but... Characters are very cute, especially Hephaestus. I like the art. Music is decent. I'd say check it out if you're looking for some trans/LGBTQIA+ comedy in your visual novel reading.
Very minor... gripes? annoyances? I don't know - what's a lesser version of those words?
Has the voice acting style where lines will often be spoken as just a few words. And it's more generic than what's written and so the same voice lines can be reused. Not a huge fan of this style, but not a big enough problem to make me disinterested.
In general, Alice in Wonderland references don't really do anything for me, but so far it's not so heavily "inspired" as to bother me. So many stories and games have gone VERY heavy on referencing it over the years so I guess I'd say I'm a little tired of it, but it's easy enough to overlook here.
Looking forward to the full version and finding out what happened to get the main character in this jam, and obviously where they go (particularly w/ Hephaestus, of course).
Thank you very much for your kind words! I know it's not a lot to go off of, but this is essentially an entire 8 month's worth of work put together by me paying out of pocket. I intend to update this demo over time to include the rest of Chapter 1 along side polish up the visuals and sounds.
I much more enjoy writing subtle references or tones rather than flat out doing the story all over again. There'll be nods to certain characters or events for both Alice in Wonderland along side greek mythos and hymns, but for the most part this is it's own story!
We hope you enjoy the rest of the Visual Novel when it comes out!
